The Working Record

A decade automating and optimizing operations, mostly in finance at TELUS, goeasy and Bell, plus four ventures built from nothing: find where a person has become the join between two systems, and remove the job. The record, in numbers:

Analyst time, across every manual effort in the role: SAP exports that were clicked step by step now run as one-shot extracts and consolidations, the month-end close across four GL accounts went from ninety-six manual steps to a single click, and reporting sends itself.

Scale

Outcomes

83% less manual intervention · 75% fewer errors · 42% faster execution
growth in directly owned revenue

Senior Financial Analyst since 2025, an internal transfer from Financial Analyst III, not a new hire.

SAP never talked to the workbook, so an analyst became the join, re-keying ninety-six steps by hand each month. It's one click now, validated cell-for-cell first, and when the automation disagrees with the workbook today, that disagreement is how a real reconciling item gets found.

Of one worker's time. He stopped being the middleman: tickets now generate the vendor email themselves and loop the vendor into their own thread, then close on the provider's own work-order API. Turnaround fell 3 days, response time 2 days.

Outcomes

85% of pending tickets closed within 2 weeks
20% lower spend via vendor batching
15% net invoice-audit savings
4 yrs payback on a national LED retrofit

Facilities expenses were modelled against location, weather, building age and the cost-sharing terms buried in leasing agreements, which is how the budget held under 5% variance.

The LED retrofit's four-year payback came from stacking government incentives with province-segmented vendors.

The ticket system did not know what the shipping database knew, so three people were the join. Linking them let tickets post their own store, tracking and status updates; one person now runs what took three. Execution turnaround 6→2 days; ticket SLA 48→16 hrs.

Outcomes

3 → 1 people needed to run ticketing; the other two roles stopped existing
64% of required man-hours per quarter · 8 working days per brand

Four years unifying project managers across the Retail Centre of Excellence and In-Store Marketing.

Retail execution turnaround went from six days to two using self-calculating Excel automation.

Ticket response SLA dropped from 48 hours to 16 with a SAP GUI Scripting + VBA template that finds the right resource for each store instantly.

Demo-device theft was cut by extracting courier signature and delivery details via VBA straight into the ticket, removing two internal support roles' worth of manual chasing.

JamSession opens soon in Toronto: a basement studio built around one idea. Walk in with zero experience, spend ninety guided minutes on guitar, drums or piano, and leave with a video of yourself playing a real song.

It exists because the founder learned guitar on a right-handed instrument strung upside down for a left-handed player: nobody nearby sold the left-handed kind, so he adapted the guitar instead of waiting.

JamSession is the other side of that: instead of asking people to adapt to the instrument, ninety guided minutes gets them to a finished song regardless of where they started.

Outcomes
1 exit operations sold as a going concern

StudiousTech ran 2014 to 2016 on the simplest model available: one price, five dollars, every item.

It existed because of what it refused to be: the easy play was dropshipping, listing a product and making the customer wait weeks for someone else's stock. He wanted the opposite, real stock held locally and handed over in person on campus.

Brand ambassadors sold on consignment right where the customers already were: a local Amazon for campuses, delivery measured in minutes, not weeks.

It was profitable, and the operations were sold. First payroll, first exit, and the conviction that owning the fulfilment is what separates a business from a middleman.

It predates everything else here, and it is where the habit starts: own the making, not the middle.
